Events

Check back regularly for more events in Inwood and be sure to spread the word about those you’re interested in attending. The more people we can get to these events, the more exposure local artists will get — something that’s always our goal. Unless otherwise noted, events are free.

Film Works presents:

Film Festival Opening Night Benefit

March 14, 2019 @ 6:30 pm

$85-$125 Get Tickets
Love, Gilda

Join us for the Opening Night Benefit to launch the 2019 Inwood Film Festival, featuring a special screening of Love, Gilda produced and directed by Lisa D’Apolito, with post screening interview with D’Apolito and original Saturday Night Live writer Alan Zweibel by WNYC’s Brian Lehrer. There will also be live stand-up comedy, and delicious food and beverages provided by Indian Road Café.

Love, Gilda opens a unique window into the honest and whimsical world of beloved performer Gilda Radner, whose greatest role was sharing her story. Working with the Radner estate, director Lisa D’Apolito unearthed a collection of diaries and personal audio and videotapes documenting her childhood, her comedy career, her relationships and ultimately, her struggles with cancer. These never-before-seen-or-heard footage and journal entries form the narrative spine of the documentary, allowing Gilda to tell her own story through laughter and sometimes tears.

Tickets available in advance for $85 (or $125 on the door if space allows) or $115 for the benefit and full festival pass. A special discount for local students is also available — email info@inwoodartworks for promo code and attach proof of current, valid student ID.

The focus of Inwood Film Festival is to celebrate and showcase Inwood and its surrounding community through the moving image. It is created to be a homegrown community platform to promote and celebrate the neighborhood of Inwood and its residents. Everyone from amateurs to Oscar winners are encouraged to participate by submitting films shot in the Inwood community, or by Inwood community filmmakers. The Inwood Film Festival is produced by Inwood Art Works, Aaron Simms, Executive Producer.
